Brakes
I have often been asked what type of brakes I am using and to be honest I am not exactly sure but here are the photos and what information I have. Front brake setup credit to Paul Williamson |
|
Front - 4 Piston calipers and 274mm vented disc!.
This is a very easy fit and very effective in stopping the car hard and continuously. I have never felt them fade!! Mazda 929 discs - Pathfinder (?) caliper - Skyline struts. The ciggy lighter is there to give an impression of size and NO... the disc is not hot. Its just a trick of the light!!

This is a great set up for a 1600 but it does have drawbacks. I have always thought the whole set up is too heavy (disc is 6kg)and stopping power is the same as the twin spot sumitomo (240k) set up. The only advantage that I can see is the absolute lack of fade in the bigger system. IMHO the overall "unsprung weight" with the 4 spots is too great to be outweighed by the few times I was ever able to overheat the 240k brakes. But, there is also a certain buzz(ego?) in having HUGE brakes. I also like to tow the boat! |

Rear - 260mm Vented disc - Holden VH Commodore (front) caliper
This setop works well but does have some drawbacks. I have no idea what the discs are off, but i think they are Volvo and modified. Once again its quite a lot of unsprung weight, but it sure does work! No provision for a cable handbrake so these ones may soon be replaced for R31 type. |
Note
I can use both 14" and 15" rims with these brakes. |
